As a San Diego wedding photographer, one of the most iconic and romantic locations I’ve been able to photograph is the historic Hotel Del Coronado. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing a beautiful engagement session here with Matt and Julia, and I’m so excited to share the magic of the day!

We started outside of the Del for more classic style portraits before we went indoors to capture an editorial look. The Hotel Del’s classic architecture and luxurious interiors provided the perfect backdrop for a high-fashion feel. I used flash to give a bold, dramatic effect—this lighting really accentuated the couple’s chic outfits, creating timeless and elegant photos.

Afterward, we transitioned outside just in time for blue hour, when the sky takes on a dreamy, cotton candy hue as the sun dips below the horizon. This is one of my favorite times to shoot because it gives the images such a soft and romantic feel. Matt and Julia changed into something a bit more casual for the latter half of their engagement session, creating a cozier and more intimate vibe. We captured so many fun moments as they strolled along the beach, laughing and holding hands, with the Pacific Ocean as their backdrop.

Shooting at Hotel Del Coronado always feels like stepping into a storybook.
